Welcome to the May edition of KIC InFocus.
The recent State and Federal Budgets have placed the Kwinana Industrial Area at the centre of the national agenda for the future of manufacturing, renewables and decarbonisation.
The KIC has welcomed this news and hopes it will lead to additional investment in the State’s premier heavy industrial area.
Both budgets contained important measures for future land allocation to grow the strategic industrial area, funding for Westport, and new incentives for advanced manufacturing in an effort to make Australia a “renewables superpower”.
You can read KIC’s election analysis in the story below.
Our task is now to ensure that Kwinana is a major recipient of this funding to further build our reputation as a globally significant heavy industrial area, and leverage the important projects already underway across batteries, lithium, hydrogen, biofuels and renewables.
It has been a long, hot and dry summer which has made bushfire management and emergency response preparedness even more challenging. It’s been a relief to see the first winter rains over the past few days.
The summer fire at the Kwinana Bulk Jetty was a reminder how important emergency management and incident preparedness is.
KIC, with the support of our KIPS and KIMA Committees, has been working closely with local emergency authorities to strengthen our preparedness and relationships. We will be holding a joint emergency response exercise with DFES in August to address some of the issues identified from the KBJ fire and building our emergency management capabilities. We will be sharing more details with you about the exercise in the near future.
