Welcome to the April edition of KIC InFocus.
It has been another busy month for the KIC team with key activities including Board and committee meetings, discussions with key decision makers and standing up for members on the issues that matter. I am pleased and encouraged by the level of interest, access and engagement we are receiving from key decision makers, including state and federal ministers and senior public servants on a number of KIC’s key issues. We now need to convert interest into action.
With around 10 months until the next state election, KIC will be taking a strong and proactive stance on behalf of members. The election is a prime opportunity for much needed investment and support to be secured for the Western Trade Coast and the Kwinana Industrial Area.
We will soon be releasing a major pre-election policy document outlining what we want, why we want it and how it will be good for the state. This document was reviewed at the last Board meeting and will be finalised in the coming weeks. We will use the document to advocate strongly for members in the lead up to the election and I have already begun discussing many of these issues with key leaders including the Premier and a number of his Ministers.
I am also pleased to share that we are making encouraging progress on a number of longstanding key issues for the KIC such as planning and buffer issues, infrastructure and fire and emergency management. These are fundamental issues for the KIC and while progress is being made, there remains more work to do. I look forward to keeping you updated on our progress over the coming months.
I am also keen to ensure members have the opportunity to directly engage in these important conversations. Starting next month, we will be launching a new series of exclusive boardroom style lunch events for full members with a range of guest speakers, including Ministers, senior public servants and other decision makers. Our first event is in June with the Director General of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, Rebecca Brown, and the newly appointed Coordinator General, Tim Marney. It’s another benefit of being a member of the KIC.
Finally, the State Budget is being handed down next Thursday (May 9). I will be attending briefings and events with the Premier, the Treasurer and other Ministers where I will be going over the budget papers looking for commitments for the Western Trade Coast.
